Tattoo Aftercare

Taking proper care of your tattoo during the healing process is essential to achieve the best possible result. Following these aftercare guidelines will help protect the tattoo, reduce irritation and ensure the design heals clean and vibrant.

First Hours After Your Tattoo

After your tattoo session, the tattooed area will be covered with a protective bandage or wrap. Leave this covering on for the amount of time recommended during your appointment.

  • Remove the bandage with clean hands.
  • Gently wash the tattoo with lukewarm water and mild unscented soap.
  • Do not scrub the area.
  • Pat the tattoo dry using a clean paper towel.

Cleaning the Tattoo

During the first days of healing, the tattoo should be cleaned regularly to keep the skin free of irritation and excess plasma.

  • Wash the tattoo 2–3 times per day.
  • Use mild, fragrance-free soap.
  • Always wash your hands before touching the tattoo.
  • Let the tattoo air dry or gently pat dry.

Moisturizing

Once the tattoo is clean and dry, apply a thin layer of a recommended fragrance-free moisturizer or aftercare product.

  • Apply a small amount only.
  • Do not over-moisturize.
  • Use products that are fragrance-free and gentle on the skin.

Normal Healing Process

During the healing process your tattoo may experience:

  • Redness or slight swelling
  • Light scabbing
  • Peeling skin similar to a sunburn
  • Mild itching

These are normal parts of the healing process. Avoid scratching or picking at the tattoo while it heals.

What To Avoid

To protect your tattoo during healing, avoid the following:

  • Direct sun exposure
  • Swimming pools, hot tubs, or ocean water
  • Long baths or soaking the tattoo
  • Tight clothing rubbing against the tattoo
  • Scratching or picking at scabs

Sun Protection

Once your tattoo has healed, protecting it from the sun is important to maintain color and detail.

  • Use high SPF sunscreen on healed tattoos.
  • Limit prolonged sun exposure.

Healing Time

Most tattoos heal on the surface within 2–3 weeks, although deeper layers of skin may take longer to fully recover.

Proper aftercare helps ensure your tattoo heals cleanly and maintains its quality over time.
